You can enjoy a vacation in Berlin Germany and here are examples of what you can see and do...
Berlin is an incredible city that truly shows outsiders the German spirit. This city is bustling with history, intrigue and at the same time it has a dark past.
After World War 2, Berlin was able to rebuild itself somewhat but the older generation of Berliners simply cannot bear to think about Berlin's clouded past. That past is now the past and at times old Berliners will let you know that there is absolutely no time to be wasted on the past.
Even though Berlin does have a number of interesting buildings from earlier years, the city's appearance today is mainly shaped by the role it played in Germany's history in the twentieth century. This is not to be confused with simply Germany's involvement in World War 2 but Germany's history overall.
The Reichstag Building is a very popular tourist attraction and is in fact most closely related with Germany's involvement in World War 2. Today, the Reichstag Building still serves as a very important meeting building for Germany's parliament. The Reichstag Building has a very interesting glass dome built within it so that one can look up and actually watch the parliamentary members debating politics.
The Gendermenmarkt is one of Berlin's most beautiful attractions. Some would argue that the Gendermenmarkt is the most beautiful square in all of Europe and others simply agree that it is the best within Germany or Berlin. Regardless of what others say, you'll have to form your own opinion about this scenic square. The square is also surrounded by many beautiful cathedrals.
Some would call the famous Berliner Dom cathedral a rather morbid place to be. Others would disagree. The Berliner Dom is best known for the fact that it holds the remains of the Prussian royal family. During World War 2, some of the most intense of Allied bombings took place near this Cathedral and unfortunately it was very severely damaged. Thankfully, the Cathedral was rebuilt and is now again a place for prayer.
The Schloss Bellevue is the German equivalent to the USA's White House as it is the residence of the German President. The chateau itself is located to the north of Tiergarten Park which is also a great place to take children to play. The actual building it is rather well guarded but if one pays a small fee, then a tour guide would be happy to escort you throughout the entire building.
The Palast der Republik is an old East Berlin building that was erected by Communists shortly after the war who demolished the original German palace to make way for the new Marx-Engels Square Palast. The building is a striking building especially to most Germans since it represents Germany's dark past and reminds many Germans of the role that Germany played during the war.
The Palast der Republik unfortunately won't be around for much longer as the German Parliament has already voted for it to be demolished. Hopefully, you will have time to visit the city of Berlin and get a good feel for the culture there and also have time to see the Palast der Republik.
